As part of the Oak Grove Baptist church’s Trunk or Treat ministry, the karate ministry put on a demonstration. Below are the opening remarks made by Sensei Mike as the demo began.
Tai Chuan Do is a mixed martial art established by Grand Master Ken Champ and officially accredited by the Korean Kido Federation in 1977. Our style is a mixture of several other ancient styles from which our founder took the best parts of each to form one cohesive martial art; those being Aikido, hapkido, judo, jujitsu, Tai Kwon do and Shorin Ryu karate.
Because we believe strongly that God should be the focus and center of every aspect of our lives, as a Christian martial art, we strive to incorporate our Christian values throughout our teachings; things such as self-control, respect, humility and appropriate force only when necessary are all reinforced in our teachings and how we practice and use what we have learned… our focus is to defend without hate or anger and without ego.
God can use anyone and anything to show his wisdom, power, and glory; even a group of people like ourselves. It is our desire to use a common interest in martial arts to also strengthen our relationship with each other and God.
a lot of people want to join martial arts as a way to boost their confidence/self-esteem but our greatest confidence comes not from how we see ourselves but that God fully knows us and all our dark, messed up parts and yet he loves us enough to send Jesus to die for us so that we can have a restored relationship with Him.
